EduGuide delivers evidence-based non-cognitive training for skills that research indicates can lead to growth across the curriculum and a stronger sense of a purpose-driven community. EduGuide’s nonprofit program equips students to grow mindsets and skills that can:
Raise achievement (Aronson, Fried, and Good 2002).
Narrow gaps (Walton & Cohen 2011).
Increase graduation persistence (Wilson & Linville 1985).
EduGuide’s bite-sized learning model provides a flexible tool that’s easy to plug in. Students can do EduGuide’s self-paced, online activities in as little as 15 minutes on any device.
Every student mentored
Used systemically, EduGuide can help build a supportive culture with a deeper sense of purpose and belonging campus-wide or in targeted communities. Staff report seeing improved grades, test scores, academic behaviors, and stronger institutional bonds.
All students do 10 self-paced, evidence-based online activities each term as part of the participation grade for all courses.
Support staff and others provide additional mentoring for targeted students to build stronger bonds and skills to overcome obstacles.
Faculty provide more intensive weekly online coaching for students’ activities to develop success mindsets and skills.
Implementation Tips
EduGuide’s self-paced activities can fit within any schedule. Most colleges ask students to use it weekly.
Students average about 15 minutes to complete each EduGuide activity. Faculty can also use EduGuide’s blended learning options to extend the discussion in the classroom.
EduGuide’s content is scaffolded, ensuring that context always supports English Language Learners in understanding scientific and other technical terms and advanced vocabulary.
The written dialogue structure of EduGuide’s online activities also makes it easy for students to develop their writing and seek clarification where needed.
EduGuide’s system spaces out activities for deeper impact. Students can complete no more than 1 activity per day so that they have time to reflect on and apply what they are learning.
These controls can be adjusted by the program.
Every term, there are a new set of activities for students to complete that prepare them for the challenges they face in the next level of their education and career preparation.
Staff time can be set to the desired level of mentoring support for students. For example:
Campus-wide courses: optional.
Gateway courses: 15+ minutes per week.
Student support: 1+ minute per person per week.
Additional support can also be added with peer, community or corporate mentors.
All activity is tracked and can be analyzed using EduGuide’s dashboard metrics.
Institutions can cover EduGuide’s low nonprofit costs through fees, grants or other sources.
EduGuide provides deep support for success with live virtual group training at launch, an online orientation, periodic coaching and phone support 8-5 EST weekdays.
Professional Development Option
Staff and mentors can also do a 15-minute, self-paced, professional development version of the
activities with tips on how to coach students in building their skills. EduGuide PD strengthens
program impact, increases staff effectiveness and builds a more consistent climate and culture.
Outreach Options
EduGuide’s program can also be used to coach students on their path to college:
