The Team Captain is a respected leader who guides their EduGuide program to continually improve. Their goal is to build a culture where everyone is coaching each other to bring out their best. Depending on the size of the program, they should be prepared to dedicate up to an hour per week to encouraging other coaches.

Annual Responsibilities

1. To get started, use EduGuide’s online launch system to set up your team including:

  • Add email to request onsite IT testing.
  • Add staff emails to invite staff to join as coaches and start their online orientation.
  • Schedule 3 virtual coaching sessions with an EduGuide Results Coach:
    •     1 to plan your launch or to debrief after your launch has started.
    •     1 mid-way to plan opportunities for improvement.
    •     1 about a month before ending to debrief, review results and plan for next year.

2. During launch period, invest in getting everyone off to a good start:

  • Introduce the program to all staff at meetings.
  • As soon as staff join, provide a brief, open-ended coaching comment on each coaches’ orientation activity to model the coaching process.
  • Follow-up personally with coaches who haven’t joined and completed the PD orientation activity. Don’t depend on email alone for communication.
  • Follow-up with any lead coaches who haven’t started their students by your target date. Ask about obstacles and brainstorm how to overcome them.
  • Follow up with any support or admin coaches who have not selected groups or members to follow, encouraging everyone to coach someone.

3. Throughout the year, keep people focused:

  • Each week, encourage one coach in their progress.
  • Follow up personally with any coaches identified as needing encouragement in the weekly progress email. This list is only provided to admin coaches to alert you to needed actions.
  • At meetings, regularly celebrate progress coaches are making with their students. Show a key coaching data point from the metrics page. Share model student quotes and coaching comments. Discuss ways to grow the program to shape campus culture and add more students and mentors.
  • Invite coaches to participate in coaches planning or training sessions with EduGuide Results Coach or share what you learn from coaching sessions at staff meetings.
  • Make updates and process approval for next year’s plan.
