When notifications were updated in the Spring of 2015, this lead to an update to the personal notification controls under the "My Settings" page. This document will walk users through the process of adjusting their notification settings.

What are notifications?

Notifications are the emails you receive when another user who has a relationship with you take some kind of action on the site. For example, when they post on your personal dashboard. In other cases, members of the site might belong to the same team as you, or they are related to you as a connection. Your Network page will show you a list of the people on the site who are related to you.

Adjusting your Personal Notification Settings

Under the header "My Email Notifications," you will find a list of options which help you to adjust the number of notifications that you receive from the site.

The options are broken up into the four categories of Global, Dashboard, Advisees, and Teams. An option will only be available to you if your role or membership level on the site allows you to receive a certain type of notification.

Global

  • Advisor Request
  • Cheer Received
  • Connection Request
  • Due Date Reminders


These options all relate to general actions that can be taken across the site or from your personal profile.

Dashboard

  • Posts and Comments on my Dashboards
  • Comments on Posts I've Participated in
  • Posts and Comments on My Goal Dashboards


These options control the notifications which would be triggered by a post on your personal dashboard or the dashboard of a goal you've adopted. You can also adjust these settings so that you receive notifications for all posts, or for posts that you want to follow after responding to them.

Advisees

  • Goals completed by my advisees
  • Goal steps completed by my advisees


When you're an advisor for another member, these settings allow you to adjust how you're notified of their goal progress.

Teams

  • Posts and Comments on My Team Dashboards
  • ONLY Posts on my team Dashboards (no comments)
  • Resources added to Team Library
  • Team Joins


The choices given under the Teams category cover three main types of notifications.

  • Team Dashboard Notifications
  • Library Resources
  • Team Joins


By default, users are shown all messages that are posted on the team dashboard. You can disable this, or choose the alternative which is to receive notifications for only new posts on the dashboard, and notifications for new comments which are posted in a discussion thread you are participating in. Only one of these options can be chosen at a given time, or you can uncheck the checkboxes to complete disable team dashboard notifications.
Team members are notified when a new resource is added to the team's library. Individual members can turn this type of notification by unchecking that option from the list on their personal notifications page.
"Team Joins" refer to the notifications that go out to team members when a new member joins the team. This can be disabled.
